Ένα σημαντικότατο κτίριο που μας αφορά όλους. Useful Information for English speaking Visitors (more pictures inside): Smyrne, Smyrna, Izmir, today Turkey. A Greek city from the ancient times, that around 1900 was the most cosmopolitan center in the eastern Mediterranean sea, with a high level multi national society and a great neoclassical & European architecture. In 1922 the city was burned by the Turks and the Greeks were forcibly expelled after thousands of years. Today the city remains beautiful but has nothing to do with the past life and architecture. In this article we present a building donated to the Greek state from it's Greek owner. In 1955, after some newer barbarities against Greeks mostly in Constantinople, were a big community remained, the building was given back to Greece to be used as consulate. It was a movement of  Turkey with intention to calm down the international reactions for it's barbarities. Today the beautiful quay is full of blocks of flats (demolitions after the fire) and the building is one of the few that remind the original Smyrna. It is under renovation by Greece, despite the crisis, as should for such a building.

Υπήρξε γεννήτορας του ελληνικού νεοκλασσικισμού, που μελετώντας τα γνήσια Eλληνικά μνημεία στην αρχή της καριέρας του, δημιούργησε μερικά από τα σημαντικότερα, παγκοσμίως γνωστά νεοκλασσικά κτίρια, σε Ελλάδα &Αυστρία. His buildings in Austria for the very rich Greek family of Sinas, that influenced decisively his successful course. George Sinas gave him the opportunity to start his career with the very important observatory of Athens and later called him in Austria and helped him to work and to acquire the necessary interfaces, that were important to manage finally to create his most famous buildings in Vienna. The building of  the Athens Academy that was a donation o Simon (George) Sinas kept his connection with Greece, while he was living in Austria. For the supervision of this building, Hansen brought in Athens his student - cooperator Ernst Ziller, who based on Hansen's lines, is nowadays considered as the most important and productive architect of the Greek neoclassicism.
